Malaysian Matriculation - UPU - Interview - University

Interview session is extremely significant for you ( Matriculation students) in order to get the offer from your desire university that you have filled in your UPU or USM, successfully. So here is some guidance and tips that I would like to dedicate to you before sitting for the interview(s). For matriculation students, I am pretty sure that you have attended classes for subject Dynamic Skill, do take it serious, make theories into practical, especially the topic of ‘Temu Duga’. Guess what? I had gained lots of knowledge from that particular subject (when everyone complained it was an extremely boring subject). Of course, some tips from my beloved teachers, lecturers ,friends and family.
Things to be emphasized        Your appearance
                                                Your attire
                                                Your documents
                                                Your smiling face
``                                             Your language proficiency (BM & English)
These things carry marks I guess.
You have no need to worry. Here is a quote I read from Facebook ‘If it can be solved, there’s no need to worry. And if it can’t be solved, worry is of no use’. So, Chill! Relax!
As a Buddhist, I prayed before and after the interview, to gain confidence and to relax myself. It worked and it really made me calm. Depends on your religion, do believe in yourself and start praying.
During the interview, you will face a myriad type of interviewers. I was lucky enough to have balance combinations of interviewers (Serious faces + Kind looking faces). Take a really deep breath and enter the interview room. REMEMBER,  KNOCK THE DOOR BEFORE ENTERING THE ROOM). Then, give them a smile and sit down after they call you to do so. You must be wondering the questions that they will ask during the interview. Don’t spot the questions, in my opinion, you will regret of spending too much time to spot those useless questions. (Just my opinion). This is because their questions are mostly according to your answers. So, I would like to share my experience of the interview conducted by the doctors/professors from the University of Malaya for MBBS course.
1.        First questions that the interviewers would normally ask: Can you introduce yourself?
-Now, It’s your time to promote yourself. Don’t forget to show off like what you did to impress your boyfriend/girlfriend. Tell them your excellent achievements, your goals in your life, your hobbies that lead you to have such goals… Tell everything like a promoter who go the extra mile to sell a product. Now, you are ‘selling’ yourself.

2.      Next question, why you want to be a doctor? So, I told them a story that I experienced in my life. -That particular incident had indeed solidified my dream to become a doctor who is able to serve my family, my country. I touched the term Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD) when I was telling my story. Out of the blue, the next question stunned me.

3.      Please tell us more about CKD.
-This time, I was like OMG, how am I going to answer this type of questions as I did not undergo any detailed researches for this diseases and most importantly I am not a doctor. But, I did read some articles before that and a doctor did expose me some information of this sickness before. Before answering this question, I tried to give some excuses to avoid from answering such question but in vain. Thus, I recalled back and told them exactly what was on my mind.
##Don’t cheat. You will definitely get speechless if you are going to look up and down for excuses.

4.      Your choice of specialist and tell us about that particular field.
-I did have an answer in my mind and I just elaborated it.

 5.    How about your extra-curricular achievement?
-I showed them the certificates that I have already prepared. I explained further about the programs that I had involved and those achievements. (Starting from the highest position/ level I had ever been)After that, they asked more about those programs.
–Reasons that lead me to have a dream to become a doctor.
-Scopes / Duties in those programs

6.      Situation Question.
-The aim of this part is to test the ways of thinking. No definite answers. So I told them my opinion that crossed my mind. Make sure it is logic and acceptable.

Interview is simply enjoyable. I enjoyed every single seconds in the interview room and I am sure you will as well.
